First, I must apologize for my appalling lack of presence in the blogosphere of late. I have been so crazybusy with other endeavors that I haven't even been reading, let alone commenting, on blogs very much. At this point, I've pretty much accepted that it's just going to be like this for a while, maybe until fall. But I do miss you all.
So why have I been so busy, you may ask? Well, I'm working on a twelve-page manuscript for the Taos Summer Writers' Conference, which I'll be attending all next week. The manuscript is a piece about my relationship with the San Francisco de Asis church, which I'm writing a book about.
I'm also in the middle of several grants with looming deadlines, and I've had two sets of houseguests in the past couple of weeks.
But the news I really want to share is that I'm now co-writing a weekly column for The Taos News, called "Innovators & Entrepreneurs," profiling local businesses. Turns out joining the Chamber of Commerce was a really wise move, as this is how I got the gig. My first article was published last Thursday, and can be viewed here. I love love love doing this column!
So that's pretty much it for now - I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't forgotten about you or your wonderful blogs, and I look forward to catching up on them all when my life slows down again. I hope you all are having a wonderful summer (or winter, depending where you are).
Oooh, so cool -- the news column, the fact that your grantwriting consulting is apparently going well and best of all, the book and manuscript. I am happy for you and a bit inspired that if I leave my day job I will be able to make a living. Have a wonderful summer and whenever you are up to posting, I'll be reading. (OK, confessions, I've been a bit absent myself lately. But it's summer!)
ReplyDeleteI AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to breathe!!!
ReplyDeleteAll RIGHT! A manuscript and a BOOK! Hot diggity ding dang, ain't that somethin'! Best of luck, friend, and do try to keep us updated...and what Kat said, don't forget to breathe. We're pulling for you.
ReplyDeleteNice template redesign, too. I like it. Got that granite-esque New Mexico feel to it.
Polli,
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you and to learn you've been busy with writing in other venues. I've missed your presence and energy in blogland and I'm happy you're busy and engaged with writing. I'm especially interested in the book you're writing about the church.
About your template... when I open your page my screen appear to have fingerprints on it. I run to get my lens cleaner and a wipe, and then I remember, my screen's actually clean, and it's just on your pages that the smudges appear. Is that by design?
Great to hear from you, we missed you too but we'll still be here when you get back.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on all your stuff! This is really great what you're doing, and I loved your column on WIRED? I want to visit them, they sound like such a great business.
You're doing good, girl!
Polli, you have taken off and it is inspiring to watch. Thank you for sharing it all here :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, friends, for all of your supportive comments. I want you all to know how instrumental my blogging relationships have been in getting me to where my life is now, which is a really good place.
ReplyDeleteDG - It really IS cool. I have to say, though, that I wouldn't be able to make it financially on only my writing/editing income. The bulk of my income is from teaching.
Jennifer - I forgot to mention in this post that one of the things I'm doing is editing for you. That is definitely one of the most inspiring things on my plate.
Kat and Postie - The funny thing is, I really AM breathing. I don't feel stressed out (most days). I'm really inspired by this work, and time seems to stretch out to accommodate it.
Dan - The book is drawn largely from blog posts so far. The focus is on my love affair with the church, my weird little intimate outsider relationship. I'm working on getting more of a journalistic element into it right now, which is what the workshop I'm doing at the conference will be focused on.
Postie and Dan - There seems to be a divergence of opinion on my new layout. Hmmm. I'm not sure about the smudges. Anyone else having this problem?
Tess - Yes, WIRED? is a really wonderful place. It really is a sanctuary. If you ever come to Taos, I'll take you there!
Claire - "Taken off" is a great way of putting it. My life is so different now from when I started this blog almost a year ago. Your comment reminds me that inspiration is contagious in the best way.
Great to hear from you and much better still to feel how good things are going for you. I loved your column, Wired? sounds like a wonderful place. Nice to know you are breathing too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Eryl. Still busy, still breathing!
ReplyDeletehey polli - fabulous offerings!!! you go girl!! you can see how much i've been on the blogosphere lately as i'm coming a bit late to the party here :-) summer (and life) is full of such goodness. i just returned from my hometown and saw friends i hadn't seen since i was 17. we picked up right where we left off. i know the same will happen here! wishing you all the best in your endeavors!!! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lucy! I'm actually in the middle of the writer's conference right now - it's so exciting.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're having a great summer!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep that header/picture you've got up there as I write this. It's...it's...just plain beautiful. Everything beautiful you've ever written about in here in one single image. Well, except for the statues of the saints...
